In the very heart of Macedonia, between Meteora and Grevena, the rivers Venetikos and Aliakmonas join, creating unique opportunities for exciting rafting descents in a breathtaking landscape, surrounded by sandstone rocks, similar to those of Meteora and forests with huge plane trees!
We paddle between action-packed river passages and make stops for diving and playing in the water, and if luck is on our side we will encounter cormorants, herons and otters!
Get ready to take pictures - many - as this hike will take us to top of the rocks! Starting from Kastraki Square, we follow the same old paths the monks used, which wind their way amongst the tall rock-towers. We pass beneath the ruined Monastery of Pantocrator, to gradually enter the heart of the lush green forest and reach the restored but abandoned Monastery of Ypapanti, and the statue of the revolutionary fighter Papathymios Vlahava. From there, the path leads us to the top of the cliffs to the impressive monasteries "Megalo Meteoro" and "Varlaam", where we visit one of them. On the way back, descending towards Kastraki, we pass next to the cave of St. George of Mandila, where every year climbers go to hang their scarves.
